My name is Jorge Soares and I’m a PhD student in Distributed and Cognitive Robotics at École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) and Instituto Superior Técnico – Technical University of Lisbon (IST-TUL), under the IST-EPFL Joint Doctoral Initiative.

I am currently in Lausanne, and am part of the Distributed Intelligent Systems and Algorithms Laboratory (DISAL) led by Prof. Alcherio Martinoli. At IST, I am a member of the Dynamical Systems and Ocean Robotics Lab (DSOR) at the Institute for Systems and Robotics (ISR), and my advisor is Prof. António Pedro Aguiar.

Before deciding to work in Robotics, I have received my BSc (2007) and MSc (2009) degrees in Communication Networks Engineering, both from IST.

I am an IEEE volunteer, currently serving in the MGA Nominations and Appointments Committee, the IEEE Region 8 Strategic Planning Committee and as Vice-Chair of Portugal Section. In the past, I have also served as Vice-Chair of NEERCI-IST, the IST Communication Networks Engineering Student Association.
